Job summary

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is hiring In-Home Hospice and Euthanasia Veterinarians to serve pet families throughout Cleveland & Shaker Heights, Ohio, and surrounding areas. This role offers professional autonomy outside the traditional clinic, with the opportunity to practice compassionate end-of-life care in clients’ homes.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent from an accredited program.
• Active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be provided.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel between appointments.
• Ability to work independently as a mobile veterinarian.
• Strong empathy and professionalism in end-of-life conversations.
• Ability to participate in rotational weekend scheduling.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds.
• Background and motor vehicle record checks completed after hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services within your assigned service area.
• Independently travel to scheduled appointments and operate in a mobile veterinary care environment.
• Perform physical examinations, clinical assessments, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services as permitted.
• Educate families on quality-of-life decisions, end-of-life care options, euthanasia process, and aftercare considerations.
• Maintain accurate veterinary records and documentation for each encounter.
• Communicate professionally with families, the Heartstrings team, scheduling and referring veterinarians.
• Safely handle and assist with movement of animals during in-home visits.
• Demonstrate professionalism, clinical independence, good judgment, and reliability in the field.
