Role Overview
Heritage Customs Servicies is growing our fully remote national customs brokerage team to include an experienced Import Processing Specialist to manage end-to-end customs clearances for our diverse customer base.In this role you will leverage deep critical thinking skills and a keen eye for detail processing accurate, compliant, and efficient entry and post-entry filings. The ideal candidate takes great pride in their 'broker brain' being a superpower and contributing towards modernizing customs clearance using advanced technology
Key Responsibilities
- Customs Entry Clearance: prepare and submit entries and PSCs using KlearNow ABI software accurately and on time, every time
- Data Validation: manage the decision matrix for the data declared on the entry including, but limited to, confirming the correct HTS classification, country of origin, valuation, tariff stacking, and PGA reporting
- Duty Optimization: from free trade agreements to punitive tariff exceptions be intentional about consistent use of defensible cost savings opportunities
- Proactive Resolution: keep work queues clean and releases timely with shipment notes, active reject and hold management, DIS responses, PGA uploads, and any technical escalations
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3-5 years of current, hands-on experience specifically processing US import clearances and/or corrections
- Technical Proficiency: strong, practical knowledge of HTS classification principles, valuation (navigating additions, deductions, and currency conversion), trade programs (assessing whether an FTA or AD/CVD case could apply without risking assumptions, for example), and adaptability to evolving tech tools such as ABI software, ACE, and PGA portals
- Effective Communication: working remotely in a time-sensitive environment requires that you be able to leverage multiple tools such as ABI, Teams, and email concurrently, to convey messaging that delivers results and instills trust
- Education/Credentials: an individual customs broker license, CCS, or other certification is strongly preferred; equivalent hands-on experience also considered
- Preferred Considerations: being able to contribute any of these additional differentiators can help you to stand out from other candidates
- PGA Experience: Comprehensive working knowledge and/or relationships with FDA (food/contact surfaces, medical devices, etc.), TSCA, Lacey Act, EPA, DOT is highly advantageous
- Southern Border Background: high volume truck shippers with repeat daily imports benefit from highly attentive and Spanish-communicating support
- Scheduling Flexibility: managing business continuity may require the ability to work extended hours including evenings and weekends
- Specialized Industry Vertical Knowledge: being an SME for automotive, chemicals, oil & gas, civil aircraft, punitive tariff treatment / exceptions, etc. are always helpful contributions to expanding the overall knowledge base
