Job summary

Rome City Schools seeks a Special Education Teacher (General Curriculum) to provide direct services under IDEA for students with disabilities. The role requires collaboration with families, teachers, and specialists, and leads IEP meetings to tailor supports and accommodations.

The position emphasizes instructional planning, progress monitoring, and adherence to federal and state policies, with on-site duties and strong emphasis on professionalism and attendance.

Qualifications

• Three years of teaching experience (general or special education).
• Valid GAPSC license with special education certification or endorsements (SPED General Curriculum P-12).
• Clear communication and professional writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Knowledge of IDEA policies, procedures, and services.
• Ability to interpret written materials.
• Punctual and exceptional attendance.

Responsibilities

• Provide specially designed instruction using high-leverage practices.
• Direct ESS Paraprofessional to support IEP goals and standards access.
• Maintain student confidentiality and manage confidential files.
• Maintain open communication with families, colleagues, and IEP members.
• Encourage social skills and participation among students with disabilities.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and conferences for professional development.
• Comply with mandatory reporting requirements and federal/state regulations (IDEA).
• Be available on-site during regular hours and as needed.
• Compile and file reports related to eligibility, services, and progress monitoring.
• Follow timelines and guidelines established by IDEA and state policy.
• Facilitate IEP meetings with multi-disciplinary providers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
