Job summary

Stafford County Public Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional – Special Education to support students with disabilities in a school-based setting. The role focuses on physical assistance and emotional support to help students access the district’s special education program.

Under supervision of the building administrator and collaboration with teaching staff, the paraprofessional will reinforce instructional content, assist in routines, and maintain a positive classroom environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of basic curriculum expectations and IEP goals/objectives.
• Basic teaching strategies and classroom supports for students with disabilities.
• Basic computer applications proficiency.
• Ability to read, compute, and assist with instructional activities.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team and manage independent tasks.
• Strong attendance and punctuality, with reliable work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Assists student(s) in physical tasks and to reinforce instructional content.
• Works with small groups to reinforce material under the special education teacher guidance.
• Establishes supportive relationships with students and communicates progress to staff.
• Operates and maintains equipment used in instruction.
• Assists in creating a conducive classroom environment and implements strategies for student needs.
• Supervises students during drills, assemblies, field trips, and activities.
• Serves as information resource for substitute teachers in absence of lead teacher.
• Assists with distribution of instructional materials and with record keeping.
