Job summary

Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryvale Elementary School, seeks a paraeducator to support students with IEPs under the principal's direction. You will assist with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical needs, including personal care and medical support, in a variety of instructional settings.

This full-time position (45 hours bi-weekly) starts at grade 17, with potential promotion after six months; training hours are required and occasional off-site activities may occur.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies and practices applicable to assignment, and instructional goals and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools.
• Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior.
• Ability to exhibit patient behavior and to work effectively with children, young adults, and staff members.
• Ability to read/write/speak English.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with IEP goals and instructional support.
• Support students with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical needs.
• Facilitate student mastery of grade-level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards.
• May participate in learning activities off of school grounds.
• Perform clerical tasks to support teachers.
