Job summary

The Des Moines Police Department is establishing an Eligibility List for Records Specialist positions. Records Specialists provide essential clerical support, maintain the records system, and assist the public within guidelines.

Applicants must be 18+, pass exams, and complete extensive background checks, including polygraph and drug screening, plus a 45 wpm typing test and a general skills assessment. Shifts are 8–12 hours, rotating.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Pass Civil Service exams and background checks.
• Complete pre-employment background and criminal history checks, polygraph and drug screening.
• Ability to work variable 8–12 hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide clerical support for the Police Department and process reports.
• Maintain up-to-date records system and assist the public.
• Distribute mail and process payments and fees as required.
• Prepare law enforcement records for disclosure following regulations.
