Job summary

Spotsylvania County Public Schools in Virginia seeks a Middle School Special Education Paraeducator (Behavior Support) for the 26/27 school year. The role provides instructional support in self-contained classrooms for students whose needs are not met by general education, with emphasis on behavior and individualized planning.

Responsibilities include implementing IEP goals, assisting in evaluations and placements, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, and maintaining progress records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
• An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provides specialized instruction, with specific educational planning, for students whose needs cannot be met within the general classroom.
• Develops, implements, and annually reviews student IEPs according to federal, state and local procedures; maintains ongoing records of student performance and IEP implementation.
• Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements for the division’s special education program.
• Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide appropriate educational programs for students with disabilities.
• Holds periodic parent conferences and/or home visits.
