Job summary

Ombudsman Educational Services, a ChanceLight Education division, seeks a Math Teacher to support high school students in an alternative education setting. You will implement proven instructional strategies, create lesson plans, and adapt to diverse student needs using educational technology and collaborative support staff.

You will deliver engaging instruction, differentiate lessons, and track progress to foster student growth while aligning with state standards and Ombudsman policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education or related field.
• Licensed or in process of obtaining IL state PEL credential.
• Ability to obtain crisis management training certification.
• Experience with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction in alternative/special education.
• Experience with at-risk students in diverse settings preferred.
• Experience teaching mathematics at high school level.
• Proven ability to develop and implement education plans.
• Ability to motivate students and engage in critical conversations toward goals.
• Experience with IEPs.
• Ability to respond calmly in emergencies.
• Strong written and oral communication; problem solving and decision making.
• Familiarity with technology including MS Office, databases, and basic equipment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging high school mathematics instruction using diverse materials and software.
• Develop daily lesson plans and class schedules aligned to state guidelines and school requirements.
• Differentiate instruction with collaboration from special education staff.
• Establish clear behavioral standards and a structured learning environment.
• Communicate progress with parents/guardians regularly.
• Participate in team meetings to support student needs and data-driven interventions.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instructional practices accordingly.
• Stay current with research-based practices and Ombudsman policies.
• Respond constructively to evaluations and feedback; pursue professional development.
• Contribute to broader educational mission and program objectives.
