Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher to deliver district-approved curriculum when the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period. The position runs December 1, 2026 through June 4, 2027, offering a wage of $31.503 per hour and comprehensive total rewards including time off and health benefits.

The role involves counseling students, enforcing conduct policies, assessing progress, preparing lessons and materials, and communicating with families and administrators

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
• Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license.
• Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
• Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
• Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
• Prepares, administers, assigns, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
• Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.
