Job summary

The State of Indiana is hiring an Instructional Assistant at Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility. You will support classroom teachers, assist with lesson plans, and help manage student progress and activities within a secure educational setting.

A degree is not required, but two years of related experience may be considered; CPR/First Aid and background checks are required. Comprehensive benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass drug screenings (if based in a correctional facility).
• Complete CPR and First Aid trainings on hire or during onboarding.
• Familiarity with institutional goals, policies, and regulations.
• Knowledge of tutoring techniques for diverse learners.
• Understanding of developmental disabilities and related instructional needs.
• Strong interpersonal skills to relate to students at different development stages.
• Promote positive social values and personal accountability.
• Ability to operate audio-visual and educational equipment.

Responsibilities

• Support classroom preparation and lesson plan development.
• Assist with behavior management and student discipline.
• Take attendance, manage supplies, and maintain classroom records.
• Administer tests and grade papers.
• Tutor small groups in various subjects and provide individual support.
• Assist teachers with daily instruction and field trips.
• May participate in on-the-job training of new staff.
• May help with experiential learning activities and field trips.
• Operate and manage AV and instructional equipment.
