Job Title: Teaching Assistant (ONSITE)
Work Location: Juvenile Correctional Facility- 9310 S State Rd 67, Pendleton, IN 46064
Position Summary
The Teaching Assistant supports the Education Department within a juvenile correctional facility by maintaining a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment. In the absence of the classroom teacher, the Teaching Assistant supervises students, monitors attendance and behavior, oversees assignments, and maintains daily academic records. The incumbent provides instructional support and guidance to students while ensuring compliance with departmental policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
The Teaching Assistant performs duties with minimal supervision and collaborates with faculty, administration, and multidisciplinary teams to promote student success and rehabilitation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Teaching Assistant’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise students in the classroom during the absence of the assigned teacher
- Take and record student attendance accurately
- Monitor student behavior and enforce classroom rules and facility policies
- Oversee and assist with completion of assignments left by the classroom teacher
- Maintain daily student records and documentation in compliance with departmental procedures
- Implement daily and weekly lesson plans to support course objectives as directed
- Effectively manage classroom activities to ensure a safe and productive learning environment
- Prevent critical incidents that could result in injury, escape, or property damage by following established policies
- Maintain confidentiality of student, facility, and educational records
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance the learning environment and student outcomes
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and multidisciplinary treatment team meetings
- Prepare and submit clear, accurate, and timely written reports
- Operate all job-related equipment and instructional tools safely and effectively
- Promote positive working relationships with students, staff, contractors, interns, volunteers, and community agencies
- Maintain a professional and positive public image while performing all duties
- Attend and successfully complete all required training and certifications
- Perform related duties as assigned
