Job summary

The State of Indiana invites qualified educators to join Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility as a teacher. You will lead instruction across core subjects and trades, develop lesson plans, and assess student progress within an ACA/DOE framework.

You’ll need a Bachelor’s degree, Indiana teaching license or eligibility, and an Occupational Specialist license or provisional certificate. Expect in‑service training and a strong emphasis on safety and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Indiana teaching license, or statement of eligibility issued by the Indiana Department of Education.
• Occupational Specialist license or provisional certificate or emergency permit issued by the Indiana Department of Instruction.
• Must test negative on all drug screenings.
• Attends and completes in‑service training programs (at least 40 hours annually).
• Specialized knowledge of the subject matter to be taught and modern teaching techniques.
• Ability to work with students at several developmental/behavior levels.
• Ability to evaluate and document student progress and maintain positive learning environments.
• Ability to respond effectively in emergencies and guidance of the learning process.
• Willingness to participate in professional development and training as instructed.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in multiple subjects such as math, English, social studies, science, health, history, PE, art or music.
• Prepare course outlines and daily lesson plans; correct and evaluate assignments.
• Train and instruct students in trades like printing, barbering, small engine repair, or horticulture.
• Organize practical and technical instruction aligned with curriculum standards.
• Instruct on health safety, tool use and trade regulations.
• Supervise students in shop or lab and assess trade skills.
• Collaborate with operations, health care, and treatments to improve learning environment.
• Provide written reports and participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams.
