Job summary

Mathematica is seeking a Data Scientist to derive meaning from data and deploy data-driven solutions to support healthcare policy questions for clients. You will own data processing, build pipelines, and implement causal, predictive, and descriptive analyses across cloud and client systems.

The role emphasizes collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, experience with SQL/Scala, Databricks or Snowflake, and familiarity with healthcare datasets like Medicare/Medicaid.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in statistics, econometrics, data science, data analytics, mathematics, OR computer science or related field.
• Demonstrated experience applying data science or statistics to policy or social-impact projects.
• Experience using generative AI programmatically to extract insights from unstructured data.
• Experience applying causal, predictive, and descriptive data science techniques including regression, ML, network analysis, NLP.
• 3+ years of data cleaning/analysis in R, Python, or Julia in academic, extracurricular, or professional settings.
• Ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary team, often dispersed geographically.
• Experience with reproducible research, version control, and visualization in R/Python/Julia.

Responsibilities

• Conducting causal, predictive, and descriptive analyses.
• Writing and maintaining Python and R code to build and evaluate models.
• Developing data pipelines to obtain, join, and transform datasets across cloud and client servers.
• Communicating technical results to diverse stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Maintaining technical and methodological documentation.
• Co-developing analysis plans with senior data scientists or researchers.
• Leading and managing small project tasks under supervision.
