Job summary

Merchants Bank of Indiana in Carmel, IN seeks a Portfolio Manager, Business Lending to oversee Commercial, SBA, and Business Banking loan relationships. You will monitor credit quality, manage renewals, and coordinate with Relationship Managers to keep the portfolio healthy and compliant.

The role requires strong analytical, communication, and project-management skills, plus experience in construction loan oversight and risk mitigation within a regulated banking environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3–5 years portfolio management experience in business banking, commercial lending, or related credit administration.
• Experience with special assets, criticized/classified loans, loan workouts, or higher-risk credit relationships preferred.
• Working knowledge of SBA lending requirements, governmental reporting obligations, and applicable banking regulations preferred.
• Experience with commercial construction loan administration, including draw monitoring and budget tracking preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; ability to learn loan systems and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage, service, monitor, and troubleshoot an assigned portfolio of Business Banking, Commercial, and SBA loans.
• Proactively monitor portfolio performance to identify potential credit concerns and early warning indicators.
• Facilitate client discussions on financial performance and developments impacting credit quality.
• Ensure renewals, extensions, and modifications are completed accurately and timely; monitor maturing loan reports.
• Develop strategies for special assets loans to maximize repayment and risk mitigation.
• Oversee construction loan monitoring activities including progress reviews and budget tracking.
• Prepare and provide portfolio reporting to senior management with key metrics and trends.
• Coordinate with internal departments to resolve servicing, collateral, or credit administration matters.
• Facilitate SBA purchase packages in accordance with SBA requirements.
• Support audits by providing requested files and documentation.
• Maintain effective relationships with clients, Relationship Managers, and stakeholders.
• Perform other duties to ensure efficient portfolio management.
