Job summary

Volunteers of America–Greater New York seeks a Community Support Services Counselor to provide behavioral health rehabilitation services and supports to help recipients achieve recovery goals in social, employment, housing, and educational domains.

Location: Elizabeth, NJ 07201. Requires a bachelor’s degree in a helping field (or related degree with two years in behavioral health) and a valid driver’s license; CPRP may substitute for one year of experience. Full-time benefits included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a helping profession or related field required.
• If degree is in another field, two years of relevant experience in community behavioral health care required.
• CPRP certification may substitute for one year of experience.
• Valid state driver's license with a safe driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring, and updating of the individualized rehabilitation plan.
• Performing therapeutic rehabilitative skill development.
• Offering services appropriate to meet the service recipient needs.
• Performing crisis intervention.
• Coordinating and managing services.
• Provide supportive counseling services to service recipient.
• Communicate observations and information about the service recipient to the Program Manager, RN and clinical team.
• Organize and support socialization activities through use of IMR or other evidence-based practices.
• Skill teaching to assist service recipient in developing life skills across social, employment, health, education, and housing domains.
• Participate in individual service coordination activities, including vocational and educational services.
• Document all observations, information and services provided within required timeframes.
