Job summary

Volunteers of America Greater New York, Inc. seeks a Community Support Services Counselor to provide behavioral health rehabilitation services that support recovery goals across social, employment, education and housing domains in Elizabeth, NJ.

Responsibilities include developing individualized rehabilitation plans, delivering therapeutic skills, crisis intervention, coordinating services, and offering supportive counseling while promoting recovery-oriented, person-centered care with

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, counseling, psychiatric rehabilitation, psychology, or criminal justice.
• Or a bachelor’s degree in another field with two years of professional experience in a community behavioral health care setting.
• CPRP certification may substitute for one year of experience; valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, monitor, and update the individualized rehabilitation plan.
• Perform therapeutic rehabilitative skill development.
• Offer services to meet the service recipient’s needs.
• Perform crisis intervention.
• Coordinate and manage services.
• Provide supportive counseling to the service recipient.
• Communicate observations to the Program Manager, RN and clinical team.
• Organize and support socialization activities using IMR or other evidence-based practices.
• Teach skills to help the service recipient achieve valued life roles and community integration.
• Participate in individual service coordination activities, including vocational and educational services.
