Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach, Department of Human Services, seeks an experienced Family Services Specialist I to perform intake assessments for Adult Protective Services, investigate referrals, and assess risk using the Uniform Assessment Instrument (UAI).

The role involves developing service plans with community referrals, coordinating with licensing, law enforcement, and other agencies, and delivering court-ready documentation and advocacy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a human services field or equivalent with 2 years related experience.
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
• Virginia Supreme Court Certification in Family Mediation for Family Mediation Unit (if applicable).
• Experience in investigations and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

• Accept referrals for investigations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults.
• Conduct face-to-face interviews with victims, perpetrators, and collateral contacts.
• Complete UAI, service plans, safety plans and coordinate with providers.
• Prepare court documents and testify in court proceedings.
• Provide emergency intervention and client advocacy; liaise with agencies.
