Job summary

The Florida Department of Children and Families seeks an Adult Protective Investigator to examine allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect and financial exploitation against vulnerable adults; the work covers community-dwelling clients and alternative care facilities, demanding quick, compassionate action to ensure safety and independence.

Your duties include assessing safety within 24 hours, coordinating emergency services, and investigating cases with interviews, records, and collaboration

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency, tactical or customer/public complaint interactions.
• Knowledge of interviewing and observation techniques.
• Knowledge of family dynamics and functioning.
• Ability to assess service needs and facilitate appropriate service delivery.
• Ability to write professional, accurate investigative reports.
• Ability to conduct fact-finding interviews.

Responsibilities

• Assess safety concerns and meet with the vulnerable adult in person within 24 hours of receiving a report.
• Coordinate emergency services including medical evaluations, temporary placement, and court intervention when the person cannot make decisions for themselves.
• Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation and work to prevent it from recurring.
• Gather critical information through interviews, observations, and analysis of records and prior involvement.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Associate degree or 60+ credit hours

Bachelor’s degree
