Job summary

The City of Roanoke, Virginia is seeking a Family Services Specialist for its Adult Protective Services division. The role conducts investigations into abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elderly and disabled adults, and assesses safety needs to maximize independence.

Responsibilities include home visits, referrals, court reports, and after-hours on-call coverage. A Bachelors in Human Services or related field is required, with Virginia driver’s license preferred and bilingual applicants

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Interviews clients to assess needs and safety.
• Identifies problems and develops service plans with the supervisor.
• Maintains case records and documents services and actions.
• Makes referrals to clinics, employment services, and rehabilitation services.
• Works with courts and other agencies to support vulnerable individuals.
• Provides protection and care in emergencies and coordinates outreach.
