Job summary

AlphaGov is seeking an experienced local government leader or management consultant to help cities and counties improve operations, strengthen organizational performance, and deliver better public services. You will assess departmental operations, interview leaders, analyze budgets and staffing, and translate findings into practical recommendations with clear priorities and implementation steps.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in local government leadership or public-sector management consulting.
• Experience leading operational reviews or organizational assessments.
• Strong understanding of municipal or county operations, budgets, and management.
• Ability to translate financial and staffing data into actionable recommendations.
• Excellent interviewing, facilitation, writing and presentation skills.
• Practical, results-oriented approach to change within service constraints.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate departmental operations, organizational structures, management practices, and service delivery.
• Review staffing levels, workloads, spans of control, roles, and responsibilities.
• Analyze budgets, resource allocation, and opportunities to reduce costs or improve services.
• Interview department heads, employees, and executives to identify challenges and improvements.
• Assess workflows, policies, controls, performance measures, and technology use.
• Benchmark operations against comparable governments and best practices.
• Develop evidence-based recommendations with estimated impacts and priorities.
• Present findings to government executives, department leaders, and elected officials.
• Collaborate with finance, human resources, technology, and other functional areas.
