Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking an IRL Technologist to perform donor and patient testing, interpret results, and ensure compatibility between donors and recipients. The role involves handling blood samples, coordinating shipments, and supporting hospital laboratories.

Required MT (ASCP) certification and a biology or chemistry degree, with at least 1 year of related experience; MLT (ASCP) with 4 years can substitute. Evening shifts, on-site at a hospital or lab setting, are included.

Qualifications

• MT (ASCP) certification required.
• Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry.
• MLT (ASCP) certification with 4 years of general laboratory experience can be substituted.
• One year of experience.
• Licensure if required by state.

Responsibilities

• Resolve compatibility problems and provide complex reference and consultation to hospitals and transfusion services.
• Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
• Manage receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples and document supply and equipment problems.
• Manage reagent inventory (ordering, receiving, inspection and preparation).
• Recognize/resolving testing irregularities and assist other Medical Technologists in problem resolution.
• Consult with staff at other medical facilities to resolve complex serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients.
