Job summary

American Red Cross in the United States seeks an IRL Technician to perform basic donor testing and assist in interpreting results within the Immunohematology Reference lab. You will support patient testing, enter data, and help maintain test quality and safety procedures.

Strong teamwork and precise record-keeping are essential. The role requires a Bachelor's in Biological Science or Chemistry, at least 1 year blood banking experience, and MLT (ASCP) certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry.
• 1 year of blood banking experience.
• Minimum MLT (ASCP) certification.
• Licensure if required by state.
• Good written and verbal communication; basic computer skills; ability to work on a team.

Responsibilities

• May perform telephone consultation including receiving and completing orders for antigen negative products.
• Perform duties associated with receipt, coordination, shipment and transport of patient and donor blood samples; manage supplies and reagents; quality control.
• Maintain equipment, reagents and stock to assure the quality and accuracy of laboratory test procedures.
• May perform and interpret basic donor and/or patient testing procedures.
• Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, determine the solution and resolve the problem or refer it to the appropriate level.
• Maintain, edit and review computer and manual records to assure accurate record keeping.
• Maintain accurate, legible and complete records.
• Perform other related duties as necessary.
