Job summary

American Red Cross in Illinois is seeking an IRL Technician to join our Immunohematology Reference Lab. You will perform basic donor tests and interpret results, supporting hospital reference services and donor safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Licensure if required by state may be necessary.
• Good written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Basic understanding of basic computer applications including Word. Ability to work on a team.

Responsibilities

• May perform telephone consultation including receiving and completing orders for antigen negative products.
• Perform duties associated with receipt, coordination, shipment and transport of patient and donor blood samples. Perform duties associated with supply and reagent management to include ordering, receiving, inspection, preparation, and quality control of supplies and reagents.
• Maintain equipment, reagents and other stock to assure the quality and accuracy of laboratory test procedures.
• May perform and interpret basic donor and/or patient testing procedures
• Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, determine the solution and resolve the problem or refers it to the appropriate level.
• Maintain, edit and review computer and manual records to assure accurate record keeping.
• Maintain accurate, legible and complete records.
• Perform other related duties as necessary.
