Job summary

The Nemecek Firm, Ltd. in downtown Columbus, Ohio, seeks a motivated Law Clerk to support our immigration practice.

You will conduct legal research, draft memoranda, assist with petitions, and help prepare client documents under experienced attorneys' guidance. Ideal candidates have a JD or LLM, have taken the bar and are awaiting results or admitted, and demonstrate strong writing, research, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor or Master of Laws from an accredited law school.
• Bar examination taken and awaiting results or admission to practice law.
• Strong research, writing, analysis, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Organized, accurate, and detail-oriented.
• Clear and professional communication with clients and colleagues.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; comfortable using Westlaw or LexisNexis.
• Interest in developing knowledge and career in immigration law.
• Experience or interest in immigration law preferred but not required.
• Fluency in a language other than English will receive additional consideration.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research involving immigration statutes, regulations, case law, and administrative guidance.
• Draft legal memoranda, motions, briefs, appeals, client correspondence, and other legal documents.
• Assist attorneys with preparing immigration petitions, applications, and supporting documentation.
• Review case facts, records, and evidence to identify relevant legal issues.
• Organize and maintain complete and accurate case files, evidence, and legal documentation.
• Attend client meetings, interviews, hearings, and other proceedings as appropriate.
• Monitor case deadlines, filing requirements, appointments, and case progress.
• Assist attorneys with court preparation, administrative hearings, and case strategy.
• Communicate with clients to gather information and documents as directed by an attorney.
• Collaborate with attorneys, legal assistants, and other Firm associates to keep cases organized and moving forward.
• Protect confidential client information and maintain professional and ethical standards.
