Job summary

Sanctuary for Families in New York City seeks a Project Assistant for the Immigration Intervention Project based at a Family Justice Center in the Bronx. The role provides consultations and helps immigrant survivors with immigration matters, coordinating with attorneys and community partners to advance safety and stability.

The position supports outreach, translation, and case preparation, working across multiple offices and with diverse survivors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
• Fluency in English and Spanish required.
• At least one year of experience in immigration legal services.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Excellent judgment and attention to detail.
• Deep understanding of and ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Conduct screening interviews to assess eligibility for immigration status.
• Prepare and file immigration applications with FJC attorneys.
• Advocate with city and state agencies on housing, education, and benefits.
• Translate legal documents.
• Assist in interviews and provide interpretation when needed.
• Collaborate with District Attorney’s Offices and law enforcement to assist survivors.
• Prepare applications for grants to help clients achieve financial self-sufficiency.
• Refer clients to legal and social services.
