Job summary

Lutheran Community Services NW in Vancouver, Washington, is seeking an Immigration Counselor to support individuals with their immigration needs. You will advocate for diverse populations, ensure accurate file maintenance, and assist in completing various immigration applications.

This role requires fluency in English and Spanish, with responsibilities including direct client interaction, translation in Dari and Pashto as necessary, and continuous education in immigration policies.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of related experience, specifically with Immigration and the Department of Justice.
  • Demonstrated fluency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written.
  • Credentials for DOJ accreditation may be required depending on individual program or location requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a representative of the immigration program and agency within the community.
  • Counsel clients with their immigration needs.
  • Complete family‑based immigration applications such as Adjustment of Status and Naturalization.
  • Provide translation/interpretation in Dari and Pashto as appropriate.

Please note that this position requires demonstrated fluency (written & spoken) in English and Spanish

  • Serve as a representative of the immigration program and agency within the community and relevant organizations.
  • Counsel clients with their immigration needs and serve as their legal representative.
  • Complete family‑based immigration applications such as Adjustment of Status, Naturalization, and Family Reunification.
  • Providetranslation/interpretationin Dari and Pashto asappropriate.
  • Maintainaccuratefilesand detailed case notes.
  • Complete continuing educationtomaintaincurrent knowledge of immigration policy and practice, andmaintainDOJ accreditation.
  • Models, encouragesdirect, professional communication among staff members andfacilitatesthedevelopment of apositive staff support network.
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it relates to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations he/she serves.
HOW YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT:

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • CredentialsDOJ accreditation maybe required depending on individual program or location requirements.
  • Demonstrated fluency in English, and Spanish, both spoken and written

  • Moves equipment/materials weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Travels between worksites occasionally
  • Works in a variety of settings, including and not limited to LCSNW office locations, partner agency and community‑based settings, client home/community settings, outdoor settings in varying weather conditions, and faith‑based settings such as churches
  • Meets LCSNW criminal background clearance requirements and other job‑relevant clearances as required by the State or program
