Job description

Job Overview:

A distinguished law firm based in San Juan, PR, is seeking a talented and passionate Immigration Attorney - EOIR to join its expanding legal team. This position offers significant career growth, meaningful client interaction, and the chance to work alongside an experienced group of immigration professionals. Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Attorney, the selected candidate will handle a diverse caseload, advocate for detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings, and contribute strategically to case preparation and courtroom representation.

Duties:
  1. Represent individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
  2. Conduct client intake interviews, including visits to detention centers.
  3. Prepare a wide range of immigration applications, focusing on removal defense and family-based petitions.
  4. Review, refine, and finalize immigration case packets and supporting documentation.
  5. Explain complex immigration concepts and offer strategic case solutions to clients.
  6. Prepare legal briefs and memoranda for various immigration-related matters.
  7. Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for testimony before the court or USCIS.
  8. Maintain consistent communication with clients to ensure case progress.
  9. Work collaboratively with attorneys, legal assistants, and external community-based organizations.
  10. Engage with law enforcement and prosecutorial offices on immigration issues and changes in the law.
Requirements:
  • 1 to 5 years of hands-on experience in Immigration Law.
  • Ability to effectively manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) are highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to move cases forward efficiently and proactively.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with Case Management Software is preferred.
Education:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law and in good standing with a state bar.
Certifications:
  • Active Bar Admission required (any U.S. jurisdiction).
Skills:
  • Expertise in Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian Relief, EOIR Proceedings, Detained Cases, Citizenship Applications, and other USCIS processes.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical legal skills.
  • Ability to explain legal concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to support fellow attorneys and legal team members.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and case presentation abilities.
