Job summary

Birch Agency is hiring a Special Education Resource Teacher for a Romulus, Michigan middle school. This in-person, full-time role serves 6th–8th graders in a resource classroom, starting immediately for the remainder of the school year.

The ideal candidate will deliver direct instruction, develop and monitor IEPs, and collaborate with staff and families to support student academic and behavioral growth. A Michigan Special Education endorsement is required and teamwork is emphasized.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or related field.
• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement.
• Experience with middle school students preferred.
• Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct special education instruction to middle school students in a resource setting.
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented.
• Monitor and document progress toward IEP goals.
• Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Maintain accurate compliance documentation and student records.
• Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, administrators, and support staff.
• Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.
• Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Support students in developing academic, organizational, and self-advocacy skills.
