Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Laborer Journeyman to prepare, handle, and supply materials for other crafts. Responsibilities include loading, unloading, erecting scaffolding, leveling ground, tending mortar, and assisting with concrete placement and vibration.

You will guide junior workers and work with diverse teams in a safety‑minded environment. The role emphasizes teamwork, physical effort, and hands-on material handling, with union‑provided benefits as part of the team.

Qualifications

• Two-year apprenticeship completed.
• Preferably some construction experience.
• Able to operate common construction tools and equipment safely.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and good listening skills.
• Lifts up to 50 lbs with or without assistance.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload equipment.

• Move and shovel mortar and grout between wheelbarrows and buckets.
• Clean up debris and unload or burn debris as needed.

• All other duties as assigned.

Job description

Laborer Journeyman

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Laborer Journeyman that will be responsible for the preparation, handling, and supplying of materials to be used by other crafts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Load and unload equipment
• Erect and dismantle scaffolding (5X7X16) and staging
• Level ground for scaffolding
• Tend mortar and grout
• Lift, unload, move, set, and shovel mortar and grout between wheelbarrows and buckets
• General cleanup and clearing of debris, including sweeping, cleaning, washing, and unloading or burning debris
• Place, push, pull, and shovel concrete
• Vibrate concrete
• Provide work direction and guidance to Laborer I, II, Helpers, and Apprentice
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of two-year apprenticeship program
• Experience in construction preferred
• Ability to work with tools and equipment such as power and non-powered hand tools, vibrators, pumps, drills, and jackhammers; forklifts, skid loaders, and power buggies
• Strong teamwork orientation; positive attitude and professional customer service skills; detail orientation; active listening skills and effective communication, including an openness to diverse input and feedback
• Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements
• *Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs.
