Job summary

The Arizona Department of Education is seeking an ESS Complaint Investigator to conduct formal state administrative complaint investigations, interview stakeholders, and analyze documentation to determine compliance with IDEA and state special education requirements.

The role involves drafting letters of findings, developing corrective action plans, occasional travel, and coordinating with school officials and families across Arizona.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education or equivalent experience to substitute for the degree is required.
• Skills in writing, communication, and interviewing effectively.
• Knowledge of federal and state special education requirements and IDEA provisions.

Responsibilities

• Investigate formal state administrative complaints filed against public education agencies (PEAs) across Arizona.
• Draft letters of finding outlining facts, law, and findings of compliance or noncompliance; develop corrective action plan if needed.
• Answer questions from the public, PEAs, parents, and stakeholders about special education requirements.
• Read newsletters, regulations, and case law related to special education.
• Participate in regional calls and attend staff meetings as necessary.
• Collaborate with department teams on special projects and training.
