Qualifications

• Current and valid state Registered Nurse license.
• BLS certificate on hire and maintain current.
• ACLS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
• Completion of Critical Care Course preferred.
• CCRN certification preferred.
• Minimum of one year experience as a staff RN in acute care hospital, critical care required.
• Completion of preceptor class.
• BSN is required.

Responsibilities

• The Preceptor functions as a teacher and mentor guiding and supervising nursing activities of the preceptee.
• Provides guidance for effective patient care and scope of practice.
• Creates formal and informal learning opportunities for peers regarding practice issues, technology, and current research.
• Oversees preceptee delivery of safe patient care using the nursing process.
• Communicates with physicians and nursing leadership about changes in patient condition and results of diagnostics.
• Responds quickly to changes in condition and protects patient privacy.
• Collaborates with patients and families to achieve goals and outcomes.
