Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC seeks an experienced Head of Engine Design to lead the ICE design organization. The role reports to the ICE Chief Engineer and guides multidisciplinary specialists and engineers in designing major ICE systems and components.

The Head will own schedules, drive technical integrity, and ensure timely delivery while coordinating with Simulation, Performance, Integration, Manufacturing and Quality departments.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical/Automotive/Motorsport Eng or related field.
• 10+ years in high-performance powertrain development (F1/IndyCar/WEC) or similar.
• Proven leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong ICE design, validation, manufacturing and release knowledge.
• Experience managing complex programs with performance, cost and timing targets.

Responsibilities

• Lead ICE component and system design from concept through release and validation.
• Ensure compliance with engine specs, internal standards, and FIA rules.
• Maintain technical oversight and deliver robust, manufacturable designs.
• Drive design reviews and approve drawings and release packages.
• Own design schedules, resource planning, and engineering milestones.
• Coordinate with Simulation, Performance, Integration, Manufacturing and QA.
• Promote engineering excellence, first-principles methods, and simulation usage.
• Mentor and develop Technical Specialists and Designers.
