Job summary

GM Performance Power Units seeks an ICE Controls Group Engineer to develop, test, and deploy embedded control software for the Formula 1 Power Unit. Based in Concord/Charlotte, NC, you will contribute to control strategies, calibration, and race-weekend support within the Electronics & Controls team.

The role emphasizes real-time control, model-based design, and collaboration across powertrain and chassis groups to drive performance on track.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Software, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in control systems design for real-time applications.
• Software skills in embedded systems (C, C++, Python) and familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop real-time control systems for the F1 Power Unit within regulatory frameworks.
• Calibrate and develop ICE control strategies using SiL/HiL and dyno/test bench environments.
• Analyze engine data and validate calibration changes across airflow, boost, fuel, spark, and thermal control systems.
• Collaborate with chassis, powertrain, and electronics teams to ensure proper integration of control systems.
• Provide trackside support during race weekends and assist with mission control activities.
