Job summary

Matanuska-Susitna Borough is seeking an on-call Ice Arena Attendant to support operations at the Wasilla area facilities. The role includes customer service, basic maintenance, and ice maintenance duties in accordance with Borough policies and core values.

The position offers an on-call schedule including nights, mornings, weekdays, and weekends, averaging about 20 hours per week. Work may occur at the Brett Memorial Ice Rink or the Big Lake Lions Rec Center as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Less than one year of related experience preferred (ice arena, customer service, cash handling, basic computer skills, mechanical, janitorial, snow removal, heavy equipment).
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical.

Responsibilities

• Operates a Zamboni and other equipment to maintain ice surfaces.
• Answers telephone and greets customers; collects payments.
• Assists in cleaning and maintaining facilities.
• Sharpens skates.
• Opens and closes the facility at start and end of day.
• Maintains equipment and supply inventory.
• Mails, scans or faxes as needed.
• Schedules group events.
• Monitors patron conduct and enforces arena rules.
• Tracks attendance.

Job Summary

This position performs customer service and maintenance duties in support of the operations of an ice arena.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

Anticipated schedule: On-call, Nights, Morning, Weekdays and Weekends. 20 hours per week.

This position may have work assigned at the Brett Memorial Ice Rink or the Big Lake Lions Rec Center.

Pay Grade D1 - DOE

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.

Less than one year of experience. Relevant experience to include but not limited to Ice Arena experience, customer service, cash handling, basic computer skills, mechanical, janitorial, snow removal and heavy equipment experience.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical.

Duties/Responsibilities

Temporary and Thousand Hour (1000) employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. Following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee.

Alaska Supplemental Benefits System

The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes at 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $176,100.

I understand that the schedule for this position will vary based on operational needs and the hours will be limited to about 20 hours per week and 1,000 per 12-month period. I further understand this is an on-call position that receives no benefits and no guarantee of hours.
