Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a medical coder to thoroughly review medical records, interpret diagnoses and procedures, and assign the appropriate ICD codes. The role supports data abstraction to satisfy statistical requests and ensures efficient cash flow related to unbilled coding.

Candidates should have a CCS or CIC certification, training in anatomy/physiology/medical terminology, and the ability to work with the health-care team. HIPAA compliance is required.

Qualifications

• High School / GED and 1 year in hospital coding.
• Completed coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or CIC.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and strong data entry.

Responsibilities

• Determine ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures from medical information.
• Abstract data elements for statistical requests and enter data into designated system.
• Manage unbilled coding report to support cash flow.
• Keep updated on ICD guideline changes and apply updates in daily work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Strong data entry skills
