The City of Lynnwood is seeking a Fire Inspector to support the Development Services Department. You will perform fire plan reviews and field inspections to ensure compliance with the IFC, WAC, and state fire laws, engaging with developers, contractors, and the public.

The role requires at least five years of experience, an ICC Fire Inspector certification, and a valid WA driver’s license. This on-site position emphasizes public safety and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred in fire protection.
  • Minimum five years of experience in fire inspection or plan review.
  • ICC Fire Inspector certification is required.
  • NICET certification in Fire Protection Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of IFC, WAC 51-54 and NFPA standards; strong communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fire plan reviews for residential, commercial, and public building projects.
  • Review fire protection drawings and calculations for compliance with IFC and Washington State Fire Code.
  • Approve or disapprove plans, alterations, and changes; document decisions.
  • Conduct field inspections for sprinkler systems, fire alarms, standpipes, and emergency egress.
  • Issue notices of violation and orders; document code violations.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, developers, contractors, and agencies.
  • Monitor, track, and report on development status using SmartGov and Bluebeam.
