Job summary

Saint-Gobain Group (CertainTeed) in Malvern, PA seeks an I4.0 Software Engineer to accelerate digital manufacturing across North America. You will design, develop, and support Ignition-based SCADA/MES solutions, integrate PLCs, SAP, and databases, and enable scalable data exchange for production and quality improvements.

The role requires hands-on Ignition expertise, Java scripting, SQL, and DevOps experience, with collaboration across cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support Ignition-based SCADA/MES solutions for digital manufacturing.
  • Build scalable apps and HMIs using the Ignition platform.
  • Integrate manufacturing systems with PLCs, SAP, databases and devices for seamless data exchange.
  • Write scripts and SQL queries to automate enterprise manufacturing processes.
  • Provide production support and incident resolution for manufacturing systems.
  • Implement DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and monitoring.
  • Develop automation strategies for multiple locations and scalable integration frameworks.
  • Maintain performance, cybersecurity, documentation, and version control standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize processes and promote best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and end-user training.

Job description

As part of Saint-Gobain’s Digital Manufacturing Program, the I4.0 Software Engineer plays a critical role in accelerating the digital transformation of manufacturing operations across North America. We are looking for a technology-driven professional who can combine software development, industrial automation, systems integration, and DevOps expertise to deliver innovative solutions that improve production, quality, maintenance, and operational performance.

Key contributions include:

  • Designing, developing, and supporting SCADA, MES, and Industry 4.0 solutions that enable digital manufacturing initiatives.
  • Building scalable applications and user-friendly HMI interfaces using the Ignition platform and related technologies.
  • Integrating manufacturing systems with PLCs, SAP, databases, industrial devices, and third-party applications to facilitate seamless data exchange.
  • Writing and troubleshooting scripts, SQL queries, and automation logic to support enterprise-wide manufacturing processes.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for production support and critical incident resolution, ensuring the stability and reliability of manufacturing systems.
  • Implementing DevOps best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, monitoring solutions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Developing automation strategies and scalable integration frameworks to support growth across multiple manufacturing locations.
  • Maintaining system performance, cybersecurity compliance, documentation, and version control standards.
  • Partnering with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process optimization and operational excellence.
  • Providing technical leadership, training, and support to end users while promoting engineering best practices and standardized solutions.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field required.
  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience will be considered.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting solutions using the Ignition platform.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, industrial automation, and data integration concepts.
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Familiarity with DevOps methodologies, Agile principles, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of cloud technologies, open-source tools, and modern software development practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Required Experience
  • Hands-on experience with Ignition development and configuration preferred.
  • Experience working with SQL databases, data modeling, and query development.
  • Knowledge of Java programming and scripting concepts.
  • Experience integrating industrial systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Understanding of MES applications and manufacturing execution processes.li>

Benefits in joining us

Certain locations require pay information be provided in job postings. Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $102,000 to $158,000 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 13% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $115,200 to $178,500. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
