Job summary

CertainTeed, a Saint-Gobain company in the U.S., seeks a Maintenance Supervisor (Electrical) for the 2nd shift to lead the electrical maintenance team and oversee PMs and CMMS work orders. You will ensure safety, equipment reliability, and compliant maintenance across plant operations.

The role requires strong electrical troubleshooting, supervisory experience, and knowledge of ISO/Lean practices. A technical diploma or electrical engineering degree is preferred and SAP/PM tools are advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting across motors, controls, PLCs, and automated equipment.
  • Knowledge of PM tracking and ISO/Lean manufacturing methodologies.
  • Technical diploma or degree in electrical engineering or manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with SAP ERP and preventive maintenance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise hourly electrical maintenance staff and oversee repairs and PMs.
  • Lead shift safety meetings and enforce EH&S policies.
  • Organize planned/unplanned maintenance to maximize equipment reliability.
  • Train maintenance personnel and develop skill sets within the team.
  • Create and manage CMMS work orders, notifications, and POs.
  • Ensure 5S housekeeping and accurate timekeeping/pay procedures.
  • Investigate incidents and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

Job description

Maintenance Supervisor
Electrical
2 nd Shift (3pm – 11pm), M-F

Reporting directly to the Plant Maintenance Manager, this Maintenance Supervisor will focus on the electrical maintenance within the plant, overseeing the daily activities of skilled electrical maintenance personnel and assists with electrical project work as assigned. Provides key leadership and technical support to the maintenance department, while promoting positive employee relations within the maintenance team. Supervisor is held accountable to ensure electrical maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements, compliance with legal and company policies, and procedures in a manner consistent with SGC Principles of Conduct and Action. The ideal candidate will be familiar with facilities electrical systems, be able to effectively troubleshoot any failures, and will possess a strong knowledge of electrical layouts.

  • Accountable for safe maintenance activities. Will follow, teach, and improve safety systems and procedures to employees and contractors
  • Directly supervises the hourly skilled electrical maintenance employees in the improvement and maintenance of plant equipment, building maintenance, machinery, utilities etc. Will lead shift safety meetings to ensure compliance to all safety, environmental and health policies, procedures, and practices
  • Organize and structure planned and unplanned repairs and preventive maintenance routines in a manner that will ensure efficient operation of equipment and plant operating systems
  • Oversees the training of maintenance employees to ensure they receive adequate training prior to repairing/working on any of the manufacturing equipment per standard operating and maintenance procedures, and work instructions
  • Identifies and executes development opportunities for the maintenance team in both technical and soft skills
  • Communicates & documents employee expectations and assesses employee performance. Provides coaching and development opportunities and administers disciplinary action
  • Progressively improves the Professional Maintenance status of all equipment on a prioritized basis using WCM techniques and practices
  • Oversees timely completion of breakdown root cause analysis and countermeasure implementation (EWO)
  • Create notifications, work orders, and purchase order requisitions using the CMMS system
  • Works with maintenance lead personnel to ensure correct prioritization and timely completion of all work orders
  • Works with Maintenance Manager to develop PMs that drive improved reliability as well as developing and maintaining standards – maintain records of all plant equipment performance
  • Maintains workplace organization to ensure good housekeeping (5S) by holding employees responsible for their assigned work areas
  • Reviews and approves employee time in the timekeeping system and ensures employees are paid the correct hours and wages in accordance with the pay policies, procedures, or collective bargaining agreements (CBA)
  • Investigate EH&S incidents – Injuries, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage. Conduct EHS and SMAT Audits to support the plants EHS goals. Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities. Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position job safety assessments and standard operating procedures and participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions
  • Occasional long hours, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required

What do you bring?
  • A minimum of 5 years of Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong industrial electrical troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment, including motors, controls, PLCs, and automated equipment
  • A high level of knowledge/understanding of Preventive Maintenance (PM) tracking systems is required
  • A technical diploma in the fields of electrical engineering/manufacturing or equivalent experience and a thorough knowledge of skills utilized in electrical maintenance manufacturing improvement
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical diploma or equivalent knowledge, skills, and training (preferred)
  • General understanding of ISO methodology (ISO 9001, 14001, & OHSAS 18001)
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S & Six Sigma
  • Proficient in use of MS Office (familiarity with UKG/Workday and SAP systems) – high level knowledge of computer systems/programs, especially in areas of preventive maintenance solutions/tracking
  • Proficient in SAP ERP Management (preferred)
Technical Skills Required
  • Electricity and electronics theory such as Ohm's law, transformer theory and power equations.
  • Electrical installation and termination from engineering drawings
  • Use of test equipment such as multimeters, meggers etc. along with the use of technical manuals and drawings to troubleshoot and repair AC/DC motors, control systems, and drive systems, analog and discrete control and indication devices, transformers, Switchgear, and Motor Control Centers
  • Understanding of NFPA 70E and National Electric Code
  • Electrical PPE and proper Lockout/Tagout
  • Power distribution both 13,800KV & 480V, including testing and appropriate PPE
  • Experience with PLC's, VFD's, AC/DC circuits analysis, general power distribution system and natural gas fired burner controls
