Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an inquisitive Flight Analysis Engineer to evaluate the performance of hypersonic and ballistic missile systems using inertial navigation and estimation.

You will analyze flight test data from sensors (IMU, GPS, RADAR) and develop software to assess flight performance, presenting findings to sponsors and working groups while collaborating with industry and academia.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics (or closely related technical field).
  • 1+ years experience or classwork in Optimal Estimation Methods (Kalman Filters), Inertial Navigation, Flight Dynamics, or Data Analysis.
  • Proficient in Matlab.
  • Eligibility: U.S. citizenship and Interim Secret clearance by start date; ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze flight test data from navigation sensors (IMU, GPS, RADAR, etc.).
  • Develop proficiency with analysis tools to understand flight performance of ballistic and hypersonic systems.
  • Support design, development, and maintenance of flight analysis software and procedures.
  • Present findings to internal audiences, sponsors, and external organizations at working groups and briefings.
  • Collaborate with industry and academic experts to understand weapon system performance and accuracy.
