Job summary

Citi is seeking a Senior Java Engineering Lead in Payments Technology to architect and evolve global payment processing platforms. This VP‑level role combines hands‑on engineering with technical leadership for a cross‑functional team delivering highly resilient microservices at scale.

You will work on Domain‑Driven, event‑driven architectures with Docker/Kubernetes, AI‑assisted tooling, and SRE practices to ensure near‑zero downtime and robust security.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development in enterprise backend applications with leadership experience.
• Expert in Java and Spring Boot; able to run production-grade microservices at scale.
• Knowledge of microservice architecture, Domain‑Driven Design, and event‑driven patterns; experience with messaging platforms.
• Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and cloud platforms; strong CI/CD and DevOps familiarity.
• Proven ability to apply Clean Code and SOLID principles via code reviews and coaching.
• Excellent communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders in mission‑critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of critical payment applications from architecture to production deployment.
• Design and build high‑throughput, low‑latency microservices using Java 8+ and Spring Boot.
• Champion modern patterns (Domain‑Driven Design, event‑driven, containerization) to modernize legacy platforms.
• Mentor a cross‑functional team; set and enforce technical standards through code reviews.
• Integrate AI‑assisted tooling and automation to accelerate development and testing.
• Ensure 99.99%+ availability with active‑active, multi‑region, zero‑downtime deployments.
