Job summary

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Transportation Engineer 2 in Union Gap, WA to support access management and permit processing. You will work with engineers and technicians to review permits, respond to inquiries, and conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

You will help protect the safety and reliability of the state highway system, travel to project sites, and collaborate on drawings, analyses, and permit

Qualifications

  • Foundational engineering knowledge in civil/transportation engineering.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specs, and engineering standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in CAD and engineering software.
  • Growth mindset and service-oriented attitude.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process access connection permits on state highways.
  • Research deeds, surveys, permits, and right-of-way records.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public in writing and verbally.
  • Inspect permitted work for compliance with permit requirements.
  • Review land-use proposals for impacts on the state highway system.
  • Prepare response documents and exhibits using engineering software.
  • Prepare and process permits for third-party activities within highway right-of-way.
  • Travel to project sites to inspect work and gather location information.
