Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) invites applications for a Traffic Design Engineer (Transportation Engineer 3) in the Olympic Region. You will supervise engineers, evaluate development and local agency projects, and ensure designs meet WSDOT standards, specifications, and policies.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated engineering principles applied to transportation or construction projects.
• Ability to review designs for accuracy, standards compliance, and constructability.
• Advanced skills with Windows-based software and project tracking tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead review of traffic projects to ensure MUTCD compliance and project requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary reviews with regional traffic experts for signs, signals, ITS, and work zones.
• Review traffic control plans and final plan sets for approval recommendations.
• Attend meetings to develop construction staging strategies and support safe work zones.
• Provide technical guidance to project teams, developers, and local agencies.
• Assess field implementation and identify corrective actions with Project Engineer Offices.
• Develop RFPs and traffic-related requirements for DB and PDB projects.
• Support updates to traffic policies, manuals, and standard plans.
