Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation seeks a Design Project Team Lead (Transportation Engineer 3) in Shoreline, WA. Lead engineers and technicians to develop PS&E packages and ensure delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.

You will mentor staff, coordinate project delivery, and ensure compliance with standards while collaborating with partners and stakeholders across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Requires understanding of civil/structural/transportation engineering principles and standards.
• Ability to develop, monitor, and update project schedules and plans to meet milestones.
• Skilled in reading and producing contract plans, specs, and cost estimates.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff and manage resources.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience developing and interpreting engineering contracts and PS&E documents.
• Ability to analyze data and apply engineering guidance to decisions.
• Ability to organize qualitative and quantitative data for informed choices.
• Demonstrates growth mindset and service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day activities to ensure delivery of projects.
• Prepare PS&E, environmental docs, right-of-way plans, and related tasks.
• Verify deliverables meet standards and guidelines.
• Oversee project management plans and updates.
• Facilitate scheduling and resource loading for projects.
• Apply QC and QA to project work and provide feedback.
• Lead subordinates in technical decisions on complex items.
• Perform field work to validate data and collect new data.
