Job summary

Apex Engineering Group seeks a Design Engineer to join the Transportation Group. The role supports highway and urban roadway projects from planning through design and construction across multiple office locations with hybrid work options.

You will contribute both independently and as part of a project team, potentially stepping into project engineer responsibilities during construction. The successful candidate will have a civil engineering degree, 5+ years of roadway design experience, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required.
• ND or MN PE license preferred or ability to be licensed within 6–12 months.
• 5+ years highway/roadway design experience preferred.
• Knowledge of MN DOT or ND DOT design and project development preferred.
• Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation Connect; corridor modeling preferred.
• Ability to work in AutoCAD / Civil 3D a plus.
• Experience with urban projects and underground utilities a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail oriented, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional civil engineering services for planning, design, specs, plans, reports, construction observation and project management.
• Delegate and supervise tasks to CAD Technicians, Graduate Engineers and Field Technicians.
• Communicate regularly with supervisors and project managers with progress updates.
• Attend company, project and client meetings.
• Contribute to proposals and interviews; business development as you gain experience.
• Potential to advance to Project Manager/Client Manager with budgets and financials.
• Engage with the public in meetings and project notices.
• Think independently and make rational judgments on projects.
• Serve as project engineer and on-site owner's representative during construction.
• Continue learning CAD software and adhere to company standards and safety policies.
• Travel and overtime during construction; other duties as assigned.
