Job summary

Apex Engineering Group is hiring a Design Engineer to support the Transportation Group with highway and urban roadway design from planning through construction. The role offers flexible locations across Apex offices with hybrid work options.

Ideal candidates have a civil engineering background, PE license in MN/ND preferred, and 5+ years of roadway design experience. Strong communication and leadership qualities are essential as the position may evolve into project and client management.

Qualifications

• BS degree in civil engineering required.
• MN or ND PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 6–12 months.
• 5+ years highway/roadway design experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation Connect.
• AutoCAD / Civil 3D experience a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional civil engineering services for planning, design, specifications, plans, reports, construction observation and project management.
• Delegate and supervise tasks to CAD Technicians and field staff.
• Communicate progress to supervisors and project managers throughout all phases.
• Attend company, project and client meetings.
• Participate in proposals and business development as experience grows.
• Assume project engineer/owner's representative role in construction when required.
• Utilize CAD software to prepare plan documents and ensure compliance with procedures.
