Job summary

Apex Engineering Group is seeking a Design Engineer to support the Transportation Group on highway and urban roadway projects from planning through construction. The role offers flexible locations across Apex offices or hybrid work arrangements.

The engineer will develop plans, specifications and construction documents, collaborate with project teams, and engage in business development as experience grows. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
• MN or ND PE license preferred or ability to become licensed within 6–12 months.
• 5+ years highway/roadway design experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation Connect.
• Experience with municipal/urban designs and underground utilities a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication, detail-oriented and self-motivated.

Responsibilities

• Provide civil engineering services: planning, design, specs, plans, reports, and construction observation.
• Delegate tasks to CAD Technicians and junior engineers; supervise project tasks.
• Communicate progress to supervisors and project managers throughout projects.
• Attend meetings with clients and project teams; participate in interviews for new work.
• Potentially take on project engineer responsibilities and manage budgets as assigned.
• Utilize CAD software and adhere to company procedures during design work.
• Travel and overtime during construction season as required.
