Duke Energy is seeking an Engineer III/Senior Engineer to perform advanced transmission planning for the Carolinas area. The role involves solving complex problems, building models, and coordinating with internal teams to meet planning goals.

Preferred candidates hold a PE license (or have it), ABET-accredited BS in Engineering, and 4–6 years of relevant experience applying PSSE/TARA in electrical utility settings. This hybrid role requires commute within 50 miles to a Duke facility.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program; PE license preferred
• PE Certification considered an asset; Master’s degree may substitute for B.S.
• Experience in transmission planning and related software (PSSE, TARA)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with multiple stakeholders
• Understanding of NERC/RELIABILITY standards and regulatory coordination

Responsabilités

• Perform transmission planning steady-state power flow studies using PSSE and TARA
• Identify causes of criteria violations and propose efficient upgrades
• Build and update models of current and future transmission systems
• Coordinate with internal departments to progress planning projects
• Represent Duke Energy in industry activities with regulatory groups (SERC/NERC)
