Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Electrical/Structural Designer to support the development of transmission and distribution line drawings. The role involves CAD-based design, 3D modeling in AutoCAD or MicroStation, and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure accurate, code-compliant details.

The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with required in-office presence three days per week, and opportunities to engage with clients and vendors on design challenges.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in drafting or equivalent with 1+ years drafting coursework or experience.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• 3+ years of design/drafting experience for Transmission Lines.
• Familiar with design techniques for technical drawings and 3D models.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D and multitask across projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop transmission/distribution line drawings and designs as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Apply CAD skills and training in 3D design environments (AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation).
• Create master sketches showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities with exact specs and dimensions.
• Collaborate with engineering staff interpreting input from specifications, calculations, and stress factors.
• Occasionally accompany team on client facility walkdowns to gather information.
• Explain drawings to vendors/contractors to support design adjustments.
