Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks an experienced designer/drafter to support transmission line projects in a hybrid work setting. You will develop line plans, profiles, hardware details, and material lists, working with electrical and structural engineers.

Collaboration with engineering staff and field walkdowns are key parts of the role. Requires 3+ years in transmission line design/drafting, proficiency in AutoCAD, and strong 3D visualization skills.

Qualifications

• An Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
• 3 or more years experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop transmission line plans and profile drawings, line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
• Create master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities.
• Interpret input from engineering specifications and other sources to inform drawings.
• Confer with engineering staff during design preparation.
• Walkdown with project team members at client facilities for information gathering.
• Explain drawings to vendors/contractors to support design adjustments.
