Job summary

Lynker Technologies seeks a Support Scientist to accelerate operational wave and storm surge modeling for NWS. The role blends development, testing, and deployment of physics-based, probabilistic, and AI/ML surge/wave frameworks, integrating atmospheric forcing and building intuitive web interfaces.

Ideal candidates have an MS in meteorology or physical oceanography, 5+ years in weather/ocean science, and experience with HPC, spectral models, and real-time systems.

Qualifications

• M.S. in meteorology, physical oceanography, coastal engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in weather Forecasting, coastal/ocean science.
• Experience with spectral wave models and real-time applications.

Responsibilities

• Support development, optimization, and integration of wave and storm surge modeling within NWS architectures.
• Advance coastal hazard predictions including storm surge, wave runup, and rip current guidance.
• Work with atmospheric forcing datasets (NBM) and derive diagnostic fields.
• Collaborate across interagency and private sectors to transition research to operations.
• Design and execute numerical model experiments with Python-based verification and metrics.
• Maintain visualization and dissemination of model outputs via web interfaces.
